Rügen

One of Rügen's most prominent features is the variety of contrasting landscapes, such as the steep Northern coast with the chalk cliffs of Jasmund and the picturesque hilly country in the South. The Southeast has long sandy beaches on the formerly mundane resort coast that simply invite to sunbathing.

You can visit fire deposits along the Prorer Wiek in the East, salt fields in the South and the West, marshland areas at Jasmund, Mönchgut and Schmale Heide (literally "narrow heath") on the Eastern banks of the Jasmund Lagoon.

The entire island is characterized by shallow, quiet lagoons. Avenues lined with old copper beeches, oaks, lime trees and maples represent another fascinating feature.
